ALX Africa runs a software engineering program that is free for admitted students, funded through scholarship partnerships. The program runs for 12 months and is entirely online with peer-driven learning. There are no traditional instructors standing at a whiteboard. Instead, you learn through projects, peer reviews, and figuring things out alongside your cohort.

The curriculum starts with C programming. That is unusual. Most bootcamps start with JavaScript or Python because they are easier to pick up. ALX starts with C because they want you to understand memory management, pointers, and how software works at a low level. From there the program moves into Python, web technologies, and system engineering concepts.

The time commitment is intense. ALX expects 60 to 70 hours per week. That is more than a full-time job. They are explicit about this. If you have a 9-to-5 job, you cannot realistically do ALX at the same time unless you plan to sleep very little, which is not sustainable for 12 months.
