Paystack with Wix

Let us be direct: Wix and Paystack do not work well together for e-commerce. Wix has its own payment processing system (Wix Payments, powered by Stripe), and it does not allow third-party payment gateways to plug into the Wix Stores checkout flow. There is no Paystack app in the Wix App Market. There is no settings page where you enter your Paystack API keys.

This does not mean you cannot accept Paystack payments on a Wix website. It means you cannot get the seamless cart-to-checkout flow that WooCommerce or Shopify with Paystack offers. You can get workable solutions, but they involve workarounds rather than a native integration.

If you are reading this because you already have a Wix site and need to accept payments in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, or South Africa, the workarounds below will help. If you are choosing a platform and Paystack is your payment provider, the honest recommendation is to look at WooCommerce, Shopify, or a Paystack Storefront instead.

This is the simplest and most reliable approach. It does not require any coding.

Step 1: Create a Payment Link in the Paystack Dashboard. Go to Payment Links, click "Create New Link," set the amount (or leave it open for the customer to enter), add a description, and optionally add custom fields (name, phone number, etc.).

Step 2: Copy the generated Payment Link URL.

Step 3: On your Wix site, add a button. In the Wix Editor, drag a button element onto your page. Set the button text to "Pay Now," "Buy Now," "Donate," or whatever fits your context. In the button link settings, paste the Paystack Payment Link URL.

Step 4: Optionally, configure a redirect URL in the Paystack Dashboard so that customers return to a specific page on your Wix site after payment (a thank-you page, for example).

The customer experience: they click the button on your Wix site, land on Paystack's hosted payment page (which has your business name but Paystack's branding), complete the payment, and optionally return to your site.

This works well for:

• Collecting donations
• Selling a single product or service
• Collecting event registration fees
• Invoice payments

It does not work well for stores with a product catalog, shopping cart, or inventory management. For that, you need a proper e-commerce platform.

Wix Velo (formerly Corvid by Wix) allows you to add custom JavaScript to your Wix pages. This makes it technically possible to embed Paystack's Inline JS checkout on a Wix page.

Here is the general approach:

Step 1: Enable Velo on your Wix site. In the Wix Editor, click "Dev Mode" in the top bar and turn it on.

Step 2: Add an HTML iframe element to your page. In the Wix Editor, add an "HTML iframe" component (also called "Custom Element" or "HTML Component").

Step 3: Write the payment form HTML and JavaScript inside the iframe. The iframe loads Paystack's Inline JS script and presents a payment form. When the customer clicks "Pay," the Paystack popup opens within (or on top of) the iframe.

Step 4: Use Velo's postMessage API to communicate between the iframe and the Wix page. After a successful payment, the iframe sends a message to the Wix page, which can then redirect the customer to a confirmation page or display a success message.

This approach works, but it has rough edges:

• The payment form lives inside an iframe, which can cause styling and sizing issues.
• The Paystack popup may not position correctly relative to the iframe.
• You are responsible for verifying the transaction server-side, which Velo's backend functions can handle but adds complexity.
• Mobile responsiveness of the iframe needs careful handling.

This approach makes sense only if you are comfortable with JavaScript and have a specific reason to stay on Wix rather than switching to a platform with native Paystack support.

Some approaches that people try but do not work well:

Replacing Wix Payments with Paystack for Wix Stores. Wix Stores (the e-commerce feature built into Wix) uses Wix Payments for its checkout. You cannot swap in Paystack as the payment processor for Wix Stores orders. The cart, checkout, and order management are tightly integrated with Wix Payments. If you need a full e-commerce checkout with Paystack, Wix Stores is not the path.

Third-party Wix apps claiming Paystack support. Some third-party apps in the Wix App Market claim to add alternative payment gateways. These vary widely in quality, reliability, and maintenance. Before relying on one for your business, check the reviews, verify that it supports your specific Paystack country, and test thoroughly. Many of these apps have not been updated recently.

Embedding Paystack Inline JS directly on a Wix page (without Velo). Wix's standard editor does not allow you to add raw JavaScript to a page. You need Velo (Dev Mode) enabled for custom code. Without Velo, your only option is the Payment Links approach.

If you need a proper online store with Paystack, consider these alternatives:

Paystack Storefront. Paystack's own no-code store. You add products with images and prices, and Paystack generates a hosted shop page. Customers browse, add to cart, and pay. It is free to set up and has zero hosting costs. The tradeoff is limited customization. For a small business with a handful of products, it may be everything you need. WooCommerce on WordPress. If you want full control over your store and deep Paystack integration (inline checkout, webhooks, subscriptions, split payments), WooCommerce with the Paystack plugin is the strongest option. It requires hosting a WordPress site, but hosting costs in Africa start as low as a few hundred shillings per month.

Shopify. If you want a managed platform (no server management) and can accept Shopify's third-party transaction fee, Shopify with Paystack works for African merchants. Less customizable than WooCommerce, but less maintenance too.

Bubble. If you are building a web application (not just a store) and need Paystack payments, Bubble offers a Paystack plugin with more integration depth than anything available on Wix.

Some businesses have good reasons to stay on Wix. Maybe you have years of SEO equity, a large content library, or a team that knows the Wix editor and does not want to learn a new platform. If that is your situation, here is how to make the best of it:

Use Payment Links for simple transactions. Create a dedicated "Shop" or "Pay" page on your Wix site. Add buttons for each product or service, each linking to a separate Paystack Payment Link. It is not a proper e-commerce experience, but it works for businesses with a small, fixed product list.

Use a Paystack Storefront for catalog shopping. Create a Paystack Storefront for your product catalog and link to it from your Wix site's navigation. The customer clicks "Shop" in your menu, lands on the Paystack Storefront, browses products, and checks out. Your Wix site handles everything else (about page, blog, contact). Your Paystack Storefront handles the shopping.

Use Velo for custom payment pages. If you have specific payment needs (variable amounts, custom fields, conditional logic), build a custom payment page using Velo with Paystack Inline JS embedded in an HTML component. This gives you the most flexibility within Wix but requires JavaScript skills.

Track payments manually or with automation. Since Wix Stores is not involved, you will not have automatic inventory updates or order management through Wix. Use the Paystack Dashboard for transaction records. Connect Paystack to Google Sheets via Zapier for a simple sales log.
