Tech Jobs in Kampala: Where to Look and Who Is Hiring (2026)

Telecoms. MTN Uganda and Airtel Uganda are consistently among the largest employers of tech talent. They need developers for mobile money platforms (MTN MoMo, Airtel Money), USSD applications, customer-facing apps, and internal systems. Telecom tech teams tend to be large and offer relatively stable employment with decent benefits.

Banks and financial services. Stanbic Bank, Centenary Bank, dfcu Bank, and others are building out their digital banking capabilities. Fintech startups working in the Ugandan market also hire from Kampala. If you have both software development and financial technology skills, this sector pays well.

Funded startups. The Kampala startup ecosystem has grown significantly. Companies that have raised funding need engineers to build their products. Look at companies operating from The Innovation Village and other Kampala tech hubs. The risk: startup employment is less stable than telecom or banking, and some startups underpay junior developers.

NGOs and international organizations. The World Bank, UNDP, USAID, GIZ, and numerous international NGOs operate from Kampala and regularly need developers, data analysts, and IT specialists. These roles often pay above local market rates but may be project-based with fixed terms.

LinkedIn. The most active platform for professional tech job postings in Kampala. Follow companies you want to work for and engage with their posts. Many hiring managers in Kampala actively post openings on LinkedIn.

Twitter/X. The Ugandan tech community on Twitter/X shares job postings, especially for startup and remote roles. Follow accounts like @InnovVillageKla, @OutboxHub, and active Kampala developers who share opportunities.

Tech hub communities. The Innovation Village, Outbox Hub, and Hive Colab share job postings through their networks, Slack/WhatsApp groups, and events. Being a member of these communities gives you early access to openings.

Company career pages. Check MTN Uganda, Airtel Uganda, Stanbic Bank, and other target companies directly. Some roles are posted on career pages before they hit job boards.

BrighterMonday Uganda and other job boards. These carry some tech listings, though they tend to skew toward more traditional IT roles rather than software development positions at startups.

Remote job platforms. Turing, Andela, Arc.dev, and Remote OK list roles that Kampala-based developers can apply for. The salary difference between local and remote roles is significant enough to justify the extra effort of applying.

Based on the types of companies hiring and the products being built in Kampala, these skills are currently in highest demand:

• Mobile money integration: MTN MoMo and Airtel Money APIs. This is the most Uganda-specific skill you can have, and it is needed across telecoms, startups, and banks.
• Full-stack web development: React/Next.js front end, Node.js/Python back end. The standard stack for most Kampala startups.
• Mobile development: React Native, Flutter, and native Android. Uganda is a mobile-first market. Apps matter more here than in some Western markets.
• Data analysis and engineering: SQL, Python, Power BI, Tableau. Banks, telecoms, and NGOs all need people who can work with data.
• DevOps: Docker, CI/CD, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP). Few Kampala developers have these skills, which creates a premium.

Kampala's tech community is small enough that personal connections matter enormously. Many roles are filled through referrals before they are ever posted publicly.

Build publicly. Share what you are working on via Twitter/X and LinkedIn. Write about what you are learning. Contribute to open source. Visibility in the Kampala tech community leads to opportunities.

Help before you ask. Offer to volunteer at tech events. Mentor someone more junior than you. Share useful resources. People who contribute to the community get helped by the community when they need a job.

Stay in touch. After meeting someone at an event, connect on LinkedIn. Engage with their posts. When they share that their company is hiring three months later, you are already on their radar.
